Woodways

A new home filled with firsts

Woodways is a female-only residential care home in Wombwell, South Yorkshire providing accommodation and specialist care to individuals stepping down from secure hospital environments. A separate male residential home, The Ings, is located on the same site as Woodways.

Developed on the site of a former care home, the scheme was funded by the Soho Social Housing REIT and opened in 2021. Dedicated care and holistic person-centred support is provided by Bespoke Care and Support (BCS), with staff supporting individuals to live a more independent life.

Woodways contains six spacious self-contained one-bedroom apartments. Each has its own front door, a sitting room with a dining area, a wet room, bedroom and a kitchen. All the residents also have access to an art and crafts room, a relaxation room, and a shared sitting room to listen to music and watch films together.

Woodways and The Ings share a communal conservatory, which includes an enclosed garden for people to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The conservatory also has a café, a snooker table, and a TV area and games area.

Supermarkets and shops are located nearby, and Barnsley town centre is a 15-minute drive away. We spoke to Donna who moved into Woodways in June 2021 and BCS Director Thelma to find out how life has changed for Donna since she moved in.
